I dislike esthetics more than disfunctionality

Also Steam OS 3 is used by a pretty popular handheld, so devs are more incentivised to get their stuff running well out of the box

I'm still waiting for one of two things to happen:

  • Windows 10 EoS
  • Steam OS 3 official support for PC

I actually did do that. My point was to present a situation where you basically do nothing in higher education, which is not to say you don't do/learn anything at all.
