Never heard of that actually. Main difference would be my web-based approach with a cloud, which works on any device. You also don't have to run the LLM on the same device (which seems to be a must with SillyTavern?).

The Character Cards database looks very interesting though! I will definitely look into writing an importer/connecting service.

"Free" as in you can bring your own LLM / provide API keys for popular LLM Providers. Basically as free as I can make it with no budget.

Accidentally posted in here instead of [email protected].

Btw you can check that out as well. It's similar to Duolingo but for any subject you want - ideal for Students.

"Fill in the blank" is now available, just got done coding it.

If you want to try it out, I created a new course "Testing out new question types".

I added "Fill the Blank" and "Match the Cards" Types of Questions for you to use in Courses! They are now available in the "new question" form.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Yeah agree, I’ll definitely implement that one.

Right now I’m working on “match the cards”.

Edit: For audio I’m not so sure on how I would do it. I don’t think most people would record it themselves when creating a course so I would need to generate it. Then you’d have the issue about correct pronunciation…

I made an Issue for Feature requests. I've put OIDC in there: Feature Requests & Suggestions

[–] Cr4yfish 2 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

Hi, you created the Korean course right? Thanks for contributing!

If you have any feature requests or suggestions please put them here: Feature Requests

There's also a collection specific for question types: Question Types Collection

[–] Cr4yfish 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Yeah, I'll probably go with langchain and some user-options for different LLMs.

I'll also look into authelia

I'm looking to improve upon the algorithm I use to score each question on a per-user level. This is used to create personalized Trainings right now. I also want to include weak questions in each Level soon.

Any ideas to improve it?

Here's a snippet from the GitHub issue description:

This is it right now in pseudocode:

score for each question = 0.5 * number of failed questions / average accuracy + time taken for the question

It's important to add a ratio of how many times the user has completed / failed the question and how long ago it was last completed.

Well, yes, in a way at least. I’m not pretending to invent something never done before. Although it already has multiple features that Anki doesn’t have.

[–] Cr4yfish 10 points 3 weeks ago

Thanks! I'm already eyeing ollama for this.

[–] Cr4yfish 6 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Haha. Well we can't all actually be Duolingo and employ people to create the courses :D

[–] Cr4yfish 2 points 3 weeks ago

Please do :). I take any help I can get.

[–] Cr4yfish 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That's weird. Did a quick google and it does seem to be 25 USD. Last time I made one it were 25 for sure as well - but that one got banned due to inactivity D:

About Nouv

TL;DR

Duolingo but completely free, for any subject, open-source and community-driven.

Who this is for

Students

Others who want to learn any text-based subject (no images supported right now)

Main Features

  • AI course creation from source documents (PDF) (e.g. class notes)
  • Create & Share Courses, Levels & Questions (collaboration coming soon)
  • AI Helper for answering questions
  • Leaderboard with Ranks
  • Streaks and XP
  • Level Scroller with Progression System

Description

This is a project to help people learn better. Its main feature is the ability to create and share courses. The point being that you can learn anything you want, and you can help others learn what you know.

The main reason for this project is that I would love to have an App like Duolingo but for university subjects, and since I'd have to create a nice way of adding content to it anyway, I thought why not make it a platform for everyone to use, I thought why not make it a platform for everyone to use - so here we are.

Roadmap

The Roadmap is on GitHub

Getting Started

Nouv itself is free, you can try it out yourself on nouv.app. Do note that you need to create an Account first to use the app. I'm still working on a Demo Version.

Structure

This is how content is organized. You can create everything here by yourself. Stuff in bold can be created using AI.

Course -> Course Section -> Level -> Question -> Option To use the content creator AI, you need to supply your own Gemini API Key in the designated Input field in the Form. There will be a paid tier in the future as an alternative.

Where I got the name

Nouv(elle) -> French for new -> new generation of self-education.

Nemmy went offline recently due to it exceeding the usage limits after moving it to a free tier due to high costs.

It will go up again soon, but until then it'll stay offline, I just can't pay that much money again for a sideproject.

I'll adjust some things, so it'll stay online in the future and won't exceed any limits.

After all this time, I finally found and fixed the issue.

Browsers affected were at least the chromium ones.

Comments, Posts and other stuff should load now correctly again.

Also, I scrapped the full-on poll support and moved back to the simple upvote/downvote graph feature.

There are mainly three reason:

  1. I want to prioritize more important features
  2. The announcement post had a 0 score for most of the time, just made it to 1 recently. So there isn't much demand I think.
  3. While the database & backend was set-up, I think it would be smarter to first add this feature to Lemmy itself.

Let me know if you have any feeling about this decision.

This new iteration of the Poll feature will include custom Polls.

Right now Nemmy only supports Yes/No Polls that use upvotes and downvotes.

The new system will allow users to specify their own poll with their own options.

Here is the link to the post in the screenshot:

On nemmy

On Lemmy ui

Edit:

I almost finished the backend for handling polls (see updated screenshot). The numbers you see in the screen are already from the new database which Nemmy will use going forward for all extra-features that aren't built into Lemmy.

I will also use this new database to build my own Image store integration with which will make uploading images directly finally possible.

Also, this post has currently 2 Upvotes and 2 Downvotes.. I guess polls as a feature are controversial?

Maybe I should make a poll asking if you guys think polls would be a good feature :D.

Note: Nemmy will automatically upgrade your account by logging you out. Yeah I know it's not a pretty solution but it should work.

The backend is done, so everything that worked before should work now + some features using the new system.

New feautres:

  • Account copy

Works by adding a new account with the same username as one you already added but with a different instance

  • Instance hot-swap (

In the user menu there's a new dropdown on the instsance name where you can change the instance in real time

  • New default instance

The default instance has been changed to lemmy.ml due to the massive downtimes on lemmy.world.

This does not affect you if you're logged in, which will override the default instance
