I'm trying to post the Great Spice Off to the WetShaving subLemmy (I think I worded that right). I upload an image, plenty of text in markdown, title, and then click publish but it just spins and spins and spins. Maybe try without the image upload?

OK, more a Lemmy question/complaint than a shaving one. I'm trying to make a post but all it's doing is spinning. Tried three times now and just spin. Any suggestions?

I know. I know. I bought it well before I knew their issues and don't buy from them anymore, but every so often I bust the brush out.

Been intrigued (mostly thanks to their cool branding) by Gentleman's Nod for a while. At some point I'll have to sus out a sample or just buy a puck... or maybe they'll make an Old Spice dupe...

June 16, 2023 – The Great Spice Off – Mystic Water Windjammer 2

  • Brush: PAA Synthetic
  • Razor: Gillette Slim Adjustable
  • Blade: Personna Platinum Chrome (1)
  • Preshave: Baxter Shave Tonic
  • Lather: Mystic Water – Windjammer
  • Post Shave: Old Spice -1980s

Windjammer lathered up something fantastic today and went on my face so soft and then… nothing. I I think I needed more water or something because the slickness wasn’t there at all. My first shave I wouldn’t say it was standout but it was there, but maybe that was the milder, smoother razor I was using. Going to do a ton of water for the thrid shave with a really aggressive razor or else I think I’ll be a bloody mess.

I hadn’t used the Slim Adjustable in a while and every time I take it out I remember that Gillette kind of nailed it all those years ago. I’d like a little more weight on it but it’s just a great, easy shaver that can go to whatever level you’re feeling.

I have never used them but the name sounds like some kind of some made up mascot for the Nationa Geographic Kids magazine that I used to get as a kid.

I should have picked up some Fougres at Maggards. I feel like I'd love them.

June 14, 2023 – The Great Spice Off – Mystic Water Windjammer

  • Brush: Omega 11126, Ovangkol Wooden Handle
  • Razor: Rockwell 6S
  • Blade: Personna Platinum Chrome (1)
  • Preshave: Baxter Shave Tonic
  • Lather: Mystic Water – Windjammer
  • Post Shave: Old Spice – Indian

Knocking one more Spice Off out before the Lather Games come rolling into town and I need to put everything on hold. Windjammer has been on the list since the start but I’m just getting around to it. Off the puck and when lathered it’s an Old Spice scent, but I overwhelming just kind of get “soap” from it. I’ll see if my nose is being more open with the following shaves. I got it in a tub but the soap oddly comes not smushed into said tub, just in a wrapped puck inside the tub. Little weird.

After have to concentrate with every stroke using the Focus I found the Rockwell to be almost too easy, especially on the second pass when I honed the lather in a bit better and found a great slickness.

I had the problem of them all falling to the bottom of my bin where my soap is stacked. Pulled them out into their own space so I remember them better.

That is weird about the flakes coming off. I think your plan is probably best, but if end up loving it you could always replate it.

June 12, 2023 – Like Stepping Into Humphry Bogart’s Office

  • Brush: MRed 26 mm Badger
  • Razor: Focus Tritok R63 Slant
  • Blade: Personna Platinum Chrome (3)
  • Preshave: Baxter Shave Tonic
  • Post Shave: Old Spice – Indian

Easily the best shave yet with the Focus and it really all comes down to getting the technique down, which should be obvious by this point in my westshaving adventures but I’m always inpatient with a new razor. The secret to using this slant is to, get this, slant it. Once I learned the right angle it sailed, though I still struggled keeping that angle on my second, XTG pass. An absolutely stellar shave in the end, though.

I finally fixed this MRed brush over the weekend, the first brush I’ve ever set myself. the head fell out on its own accord so really I was just gluing it back in but I think I set it a bit deeper somehow and now it feels soooo much better. Before it had too much splay and the bulb head felt kind of awkward. Now, it’s got the prefect amount of stiff and scritch. Maybe it’s just psychological or maybe I am actually the greatest brush setter of all time. I set a boar brush in a new handle this weekend as well so we’ll have to wait and see.

Finally, Guy Noir. This isn’t my first time with Chiseled Face’s base but it is my first time with Guy Noir and it is stellar. Weirdly, off the (sample) puck I got coconut and wondered what that had to do with any gumshoe, even the comical Guy Noir. But the moment you lather it the tobocca comes out and the scent is just pitch perfect. This isn’t, to me, the scent that a noir gumshoe would wear it’s the scent of a noir gumshoe. If you walked into Bogart’s venisian-blind-shadowed office and he ran those doeful eyes over your gams this is exactly what it would smell like. It’s really quite stunning.
