I personally subscribe to the conspiracy theory that Musk has moved more core services to something cheaper than Google Compute Cloud, and whatever that is needs rate limits on Twitter to just barely function while they try scale it back up.

I think that's pretty much solved with the Wireless Qi standard, it just needs more and better support for mid-range devices.
Align the coil with magnets in a standardised fashion and publish the spec so that third party gadgets can be made to attach to the magnets on the back.
