Tonight marks a truly historic moment for France – the reopening of its most iconic cathedral, and one of the world’s most renowned landmarks, Notre-Dame de Paris.

Summary

The UK’s tap water safety is at risk due to the closure of all domestic laboratories certified to test water treatment products under EU-derived Regulation 31.

Without certified labs, new products cannot be approved, and existing ones requiring retesting are becoming non-compliant.

Industry insiders blame Brexit, as EU countries will share lab capacity starting in 2026, while UK rules prohibit foreign testing.

This has created a backlog of products, limited market competition, and raised costs. While officials claim water remains safe, experts warn of delays in adopting innovative treatments.

Something funny is going on with that table. I can't see it, but it's clearly there if you click the "view source" button.

Sad but not unexpected. Battery tech is hard and will probably need gov't money for a while to get it up and running. China did it like that, why not the EU?

Not saying that we should keep funding Northvolt, but clearly something needs to be done.

Would be cool to try that, but you need both a domain and tls keys for that, don't you?

Not the way I understand it. It's integrating the Financial markets more. The more unified the EU is, the more of a fight we can put up against the US and China (and probably soon India).

Surprised to see Canada and NZ on that list. I thought they were pretty progressive.

Never been, but I have plans to visit both.

More integration between member states would help too.

While that's a problem, imho there are a few points in the article worth considering. For example it's very hard to grow companies due to lack of capital for investments. So companies move to the US, which is a problem for us.
