You cannot trust ANY source.
There is no shortcut.
I've been burned by them all, but I tend to trust a few people on Goodreads (it takes a while to read through reviews to get an overview TBH).
Basically I grab the book via Annie's Archive and see how it goes.
So many books that so many people rate as being Amazing I find basically suck.
I also hate so many books on the 'Best Seller' or 'Best Reads' lists...
The last one (I pushed through it despite my reservations) was 'An Absolutely Remarkable Thing' and out of 5 stars I gave it a sucky 2... So then I find other reviewers who also gave it less than 3 stars and start looking at their other reviews.
- Like minds think alike - fools seldom differ.
Anyway, you can trust me... If you didn't read A Man Called Ove just do.
Weird - literally never happened to me because I hold it 4 fingers on the back and thumb on the left edge.
I think it's only 'locked' if you use it online with Amazon.
I have all my own books (from Annie's Archive - latest book is a 4-book bundle on hard disk, polished and transferred by Calibre/USB.
I love my Paperwhite. I bought the paperwhite 3 a couple of years ago.
The issue perhaps availability and pricing, itdepends where you live, but e-readers are not really available where I am, I had to order mine through Shopee (and not many options are available - I was lucky that mine was cheap).
- Book Nova Air is nice - around 15000 baht
- Books Pokes 6" - around 7000 baht
- Paperwhite 5 (11th generation) can be had here for 5300 baht
However, I got a paperwhite 3 (about 3-4 years back) for 3500 baht (just a little more expensive than Amazon prices without the heavy shipping costs).
I then faced an issue that some books I wanted were only made available via paperback in the Amazon store... but I live outside the USA.
Amazon is truly evil. I also believe they don't make money out of their paperwhite, but I also heard that the new BASIC kindle is probably better (as after Paperwhite 3, with the flush waterproof screens, the contrast also suffered).
I have Calibre and I use Annie's Archive quite a lot.
I have no problems grabbing epubs and exporting them as azw3 - all my books sit on my HDD and get synchronised to the Kindle via USB cable.
Wow - we have a new defniition of 'awesome dudes'.
Thank you.
ROFLMAO
I'm a bigger idiot than you 😛
If you use 'yay' or 'paru' you can set them to tell you any new news every time you launch them...
Aha, I can't help laughing that we skipped that on Manjaro ;)
Trying to enforce complete ownership of any content shared on their platform...
It's one reason I never open Pinterest.
It IS monetized - right now by donations/crowdfunding.
What we need is for people to be more open to supporting what they want via micro-payments, regular donations, because that's the way to say NO to advertising which brings in virtually no income for the amount of time and bandwidth it consumes.
