Admin Settings: What is 'Listing Type'? (self.lemmy_support)

In the admin config, there is a section called 'Listing Type' with options for Local and All. What does this option do?

I understand what 'Type' does in a users settings. It's the default for what is shown on the home page. How is this different if it is at all?

Yeah, definitely just a curiosity. It usually lives in the back of a junk drawer or cable box. Sometimes I'll come across it and just smile :)

Read an article about building a Redbox either on the 2600 Usenet group or some other hack/phreak BBS probably around 1993. Went to radio shack the next day to buy the tone dialer and crystal. I messed up the solder pretty bad but it still works to this day.

I recently spun up my own lemmy instance and was wondering if I had to manually add other lemmy instances to the 'Allowed Instances' admin field, or if they are added automatically when someone searches for a lemmy instance?
