Actually, I think there is a a dedicated instance for the kinks and other NSFW communities lol

Haha! Nothing wrong with keeping track of some inspiration.

Sounds like you already have the ideal setup for that part then. You could set an automation that loops with a timed delay to handle the night time pump circulation.

Would you need the pump to observe the same behavior with longer run times during the day? If so you can set it to check the time or sunrise/sunset and run the corresponding loop you need. That might solve the minimum runtime issue as you would be achieving your goal runtime by dividing it across the day.

Hahaha fair point. Lol

Hahaha I feel your pain. I started off with pretty much everything but easily supported gear. D-Link smart plugs, a mix of cameras from different vendors... And a home assistant install that only wanted to talk to half of them on a good day. Now I have a mix of 433MHz, Zigbee, and Z-Wave gear. The fun part is once you have the spare time to work at it you'll probably not have spare time anymore lol

I gotta say... Your documentation is really good. You definitely have more experience with node red than myself so I am not sure how one would improve upon your work so far. Plus most of my improvements would probably be a little advanced for the aim of your project as I tend to go down a rabbit hole whenever I automate something lol.

Mostly, my two cents are for if you want to go further towards a smart pump and getting more data into home assistant:

  • Look for a way to track the flow of water through the pump to watch for signs of blockage or pump failure.
  • Look at what options would you have for water quality sampling/intervention (if you do any maintenance for that).

The trouble with going too big is that you may run out of room to store it but what if you make elves or penguins of each of your family members and everyone can decorate their own? That way it is personal and you can add onto it by giving them a village of sorts with buildings and other items as the years go on? As your children grow they can even participate in larger add-ons to the village.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to make a quick post to say hi and inspire other lurkers to join in on the communities they love.

I come from Home Assistant and Home Automation on Reddit and figured my low post count on those communities wouldn't help grow these communities unless I get my hands dirty and participate where I can.

Anyways I am happy to be here and I guess I'll end off with asking what everyone else is using for their home automatons?

I nuked my accounts at reddit just before the strike as a final move out of frustration. It was tough not knowing what the next day was going to look like. The people and the communities mean the world to me no matter the size and I am forever grateful of the hard work that was put in over there. I look forward to watching things grow over here and hope the initial learning curve is not too challenging for everyone and that it inspires more development than reddit ever did.
