Twitch still has critical mass. YT Streaming is still horrible, Kick is a giant advertisement for Stake and Mixer died years ago.
As long as they can find a way to milk more money out of users they’ll stay around.
They’ve never once made money. Twitch is a massive money pit where 99% of the creators on the platform are explicitly leeching while bringing nothing by way of income.
It’s mostly Linux and Politics, and most of my niche hobbies (and even most of the non-niche ones) are barely represented here, if at all.
It’s really disappointing. I have always been one to consume content, not create it, and it feels like if you’re not creating content there’s very little of interest. I want to like the app, but I find myself spending more time browsing Reddit in a web browser on my phone rather than using Lemmy.
Same. CSGO and typing in the game chat got me proficient enough to type quickly.

Technically Maya and Cinema4d are still the industry leaders (from my understanding, there’s also likely a lot of proprietary tools used). However you’re right about Blender being a competitor now. And that has to do with the fact that it’s almost feature “complete” in comparison to its competitors.
Linux is non-viable for a whole lot of people, just based on the number of Adobe subscriptions. It’s fine for people to use windows. It’s also fine for people to not care about the bad parts about windows. The same way there is for Linux. It’s great at a lot of things, but it’s really bad at most other things. Windows just works, but there’s plenty that it takes away from the user. It’s all about how much troubleshooting you’re willing to do, and in my case that’s next to none.
It doesn’t matter why it’s that way. It matters that it is. Linux is non-viable in a lot of industries. The Linux Vegans consistently refuse to accept that FOSS alternatives are only alternatives in name. As competing products they’re almost always missing features, functionality and/or performance that the industry leader has. Ask any graphic artist about GIMP vs Photoshop and there’s a pretty clear winner, and it’s not just because of familiarity.
This is a net win. Now they won’t be recommended to everyone trying to do hardware comparisons. The bias in their results has pretty much made them worthless as a source since Ryzen released.
The Linux series was one of the best, because it showed what would happen if someone who didn’t know what they were doing tried to move to Linux. Linux shills have been preaching “it’s the year of the Linux desktop” forever now, but since it’s so different from windows and macOS there’s a massive learning curve that only shows up once you’ve switched.
I would bet 8/10 people who have used windows/macOS for 30+ years would have many of the same problems as Linus did. I know I’ve made many of the same mistakes that were made by Linus/Luke in that series, including accidentally nuking my DE.
Linux sucks as a desktop if you aren’t already familiar with Linux from the terminal. There’s a few edge cases, but for the most part it’s not a good experience if you do anything more than web browsing.
I’m no Linus shill, though I do enjoy their content for the most part. He’s not a tech god like people make him out to be, he’s just a slightly above average tech nerd who’s a good presenter. And that’s the audience that the Linux shills are trying to push the OS onto.
