repaintings

Repainting is taking an existing work of art, generally a physical painting or sculpture, and altering or adding to it. Usually the alterations "interact" with the original work more than obscure it, creating a new piece with new meaning derived from a hybridization of the original artist's intent and the repainter's additions.

RULES:

  1. Post repaintings. Do your best to give credit to the repainter if it's not you. Before and after pics are encouraged if available.

  2. Be cool. Constructive criticism is great, but recognize that art is often personal to the artist, and that artist is a human being.

  3. Sitewide rules apply.

I paint monsters into thrift store landscapes. This is the second one I did, another from the era in which I didn't have the foresight to photograph the original landscape, or in this case, swampscape. I was also giving them generic titles based on their surroundings, but that didn't last long.

"Wait, what happened?"

"Did you remember that plain boring paint grandma loved to keep in the bedroom? The lake view? I casually show an old photo of the room to a friend in the art market and guess what? THAT THING IS WORTH A FORTUNE!!!! MILLIONS!!!"

" ... oh"

" I know, I know is shocking. We have to be smart about it. First come first, where's the paint?""

Someday this exact thing is going to happen, and it will simultaneously be the saddest and happiest day of my life.
