Fuuuck. I'm a Zadina truther. He's gonna get claimed, right? I hope wherever he goes, he pops off. While he never hit his potential here, he always looked good, and got yanked around the lineup so much, I'm sure that didn't exactly help him.
Would much rather keep him than sign too many FAs...
Actually... What does getting waived now even mean? Are they trying to buy him out, or just being nice to let him go to another team free of charge?
Stevie said during his press conference if he isn't claimed he'll be at camp and compete for a spot at the team as he's still under contract.
Wow, I'm surprised that they are going down this path. I thought that he still had some trade value being a top 10 pick. Maybe it's a goodwill gesture by Yzerman to let Zadina get claimed elsewhere?
That's what it sounds like. Zadina wanted a fresh start but Stevie couldn't find a trade, so he waived him to get a shot somewhere else.
I get that the NHL draft is a crapshoot, but man it seems like we've been missing a ton with our picks.
Zadina seems to be the only Yzerman pick that didn't really work out. Raymond will figure it out eventually for sure. Seiders been fantastic. Cossa seems to be developing well and Edvinson had a great end to his red wings season last year. Berggen also really stood out this year as a serious NHLer. Wallinder and Johansen are looking really promising. You even have the projected upside of Kasper and Mazur to look forward to. Trust the process brother.
The prospect pool is great, the problem is putting together a roster than isn't total crap now for the kids to figure out the NHL without losing every game.
Zadina was actually a Ken Holland pick. I do think we are set up well, Yzerman had nothing in the pipeline when he took over. I think we have an outside shot at the playoffs depending on if some of the kids make a jump.
Even better then! I couldn't remember but I think we're in a good spot. It might be another year or 2 before we're really where we want to be but as long as the kids in the pipeline pan out, I think we'll be in great shape.
I wonder if anyone will even claim him honestly. Considering no one grabbed Vrana when he was on the waiver wire last year and he's a much better player than Zadina. It also wouldn't surprise me if someone does and he pops off next year... Sad to see it didn't work out here in Detroit though.
