A Lemmy Community to share links about and for amateur (ham) radio to advance the technology, and promote communication and international goodwill. This community IS NOT for CB, GMRS, MURS, FRS, etc topics unless they are related to ham radio in some way.

We won't tolerate personal insults, illegal activity, or anything contrary to good amateur practice.

If asking questions about regulations, please include your country because we recognize that, while the hobby is international, regulations often aren't.

Why should this bother you? If you are a radio amateur it should be a grave concern that a band which has provided the “glue” for so many vital services over many decades might come under threat, and if you are not a radio amateur it should concern you that a commercial defence contractor in one country can so easily set in motion the degradation of a globally open resource governed by international treaties penned in your grandparents’ time.

That seems to be four year old news, is it still relevant?

The first sentence of the article states that the conference in question is this year

A story that has been on the burner for a few weeks concerns a proposal that will be advanced to the ITU World Radiocommunication Conference 2023

I looked it up and the conference is in November. But neither article nor post says anything about what you should do, if you want to keep the 2m band for amateurs.

There’s a few things listed here to do: https://www.kb6nu.com/will-we-lose-the-2m-band/

and

https://www.save2m.org/

Also this is the agenda for the meeting. Skimmed it but didn’t see which one pertains to this issue https://www.itu.int/wrc-23/wrc-23-agenda/

Yes. While it hasn't been widely known, it's continuing and they're heading towards a vote.

Why is it always the French that try to ruin everyting. For real tho, we dont take up that much band space and they still want to take that from us
