Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! ✈️

An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! 🇵🇭

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

Ewan pero minsan nasa isip ko na responsibility din ng government na enforce ang family planning, kasi sobra na population natin. Malaking bagay din yun negative mindset ng mga religious groups, ekis agad sa kondom, pills, etc. Pano pa abortion. Kaya hirap din tayo as nation mag-move forward.

This has been trending in my feed recently and idk why when it's a trite statement that reeks of privilege. I'm sure benta na naman yan sa kabila, though. ROTLMAO!

Anyway, those who do this are well-aware of the logic. You pointing it out like you're the first person to think of it actually makes you look like an idiot lacking in self-awareness.

I know this because we're still surrounded by poverty through my uncle and extended relatives that are doing the same "magpalaki ng successor/s" approach. Kahit yung perspective ng maids namin that came and go, I got to hear from them straight up and it's the same deal. Alam nila na kulang sila sa pera and still insist on breeding because that's their only other option to rise from walang-wala.

Heck, that strategy is the reason why we're not poor in the first place. Walang trabaho lola ko while lolo was just a simple repairman. Yet they bred and raised 5 children, nangutang to send them to college, and struck gold when the elder became an MD, and everyone else (but the uncle) migrated to Australia landing cushy jobs. Survivor's Bias, yes, but again, if that's your only other option, it's the shot you're taking.

People take for granted that they're fortunate they were born in a situation that this was never a problem for them. Or at least natakasan nila yung beginning na ganyan, mostly out of luck kahit sabihin mo pa nagsumikap ka, and ngayon nalimutan na pinanggalingan nila by being judgy assholes.

Very well said.

Similar situation here. Grandma and grandpa from my mom's side were broke af and were from the countryside. Still bred like rabbits. Did everything they could so their kids can finish school and now all of them are successful. I'd even go so far as to say their morals are in place (a few of them provide for poor kids despite having families).

Edit: IDEK why I forgot but i literally have an aunt with 8 kids. Can't even remember all of my cousins' names. They're doing extremely well today. Better than me, tbh, and i only have one sibling and we were middle class growing up.

ngayon nalimutan na pinanggalingan nila by being judgy assholes.

There's a sub i know of that'd downvote the f out of this statement. Glad I'm not there anymore lmao.

Another popular reason for it is the dreaded ReTiReMeNt PlAn na of course inis din mga gen-Z — but that's the reality.

We don't really have pensions here and most of the time it's little. My dad's pension is so small, we usually have him relegated to the cheapest expenditures. Nakita ko sa handbook retirement benefits namin at napakamot ako ng ulo what human being could survive with that comical amount.

Nursing homes are not a thing here and the few that exist are fucking expensive. Almost 2 million pesos annually for a couple. Multiply that by several years, decades — how much is that? If you're supporting jeepney drivers because they couldn't afford to pay for a modern jeep, what makes you think a retired person could?

Saving for retirement? Ikaw ba kaya mo mag-tabi sa kakatiting mo na sweldo ng enough money to sustain you for the next 15-20 years? At hindi lang food, internet, utilities pagkakagastusan mo, need mo pa rin ng caregiver so another expense yun.

Ah, wala ka balak mabuhay ng matagal? Define matagal. Are you saying you'd be dead before you reach retirement age? How can you tell? We don't have assisted suicide here. Lilipad ka sa country where it's allowed? Matagal ang approval nun, it takes almost a year. Do you have enough money to live in Switzerland while waiting? Siyempre wala. You're going to kill yourself? Well, not many people have the courage to do that.

I have a better question. Instead of getting pissed at your parents (or other parents) and screaming to the world that you're antinatalist, why not hold our government and corporations accountable? Taasan nila sweldo. Normalize pensions. Let's bring the concept of 401(k) here imbes na mga walang katorya torya na team building. Hike up Pag-Ibig dividend rates on their provident benefits. Bigyan ng better discounts mga retirees sa utilities. Wala na ako maisip, lol.

Exactly. I mean, I understand why people hate being used as "retirement plans" - it's just a bad position to be in considering you also have to start your new life but...

Saving for retirement?

Hell of a lot easier said than done. A million pesos won't get you as far and you need much more than that. Hindi sapat pension natin specially for low earners kasi they'll be getting less. Plus like you've said, buti sana if electricity/water bills and food lang kailangan mong pagkagastusan. Imagine being your 70s living alone.

Instead of getting pissed at your parents (or other parents) and screaming to the world that you're antinatalist, why not hold our government and corporations accountable?

Natawa ako sa team building hahahaha. Tama naman.

[–] decadentrebel 2 points 1 year ago

Team buildings are seriously the most useless benefits ever. Sa experience ko, yung mga magkaka-away sa opisina at cliques magka-kanya kanya lang at pag-uusapan mga nasa labas ng grupo nila, so it doesn't exactly achieve anything! Sa dati ko nga work, yung room assignments at cottage, ginagawa nung HR pagsasamahin nya mga magbabarkada sa same rooms at nasa same side ng mga galanteng bosses while yung kaaway nasa kabilang dulo.

That, or mga free-flowing inuman at kantahan which you can honestly do on your own every Friday.

Give us 401(k), you fucks! ROTFLMAO
