I'm doing this by way of introduction. I do about 10-12 km a week on average

The pool is only open for community lap swim 30min one night a week, so whatever fits in there. Distance fluctuates based on the warmup, the set, cool down and who I have to share the lane with, but it’s probably around 1.5k per week. Less if I’m doing drills or have to share the lane with 2+ people.

I hope I'll get there someday! I'm around 3km a week.

Ideally I would like to swim more than not at all.

Any tips on getting started?

Maybe dont do what I did - on arrival first time I glanced at the signage at the deep end which said 1.4 metres depth, or so I thought until I had taken a long running jump into the pool at that end, looked at the sign again to find that it actually said 4.4 metres depth. Not the ideal way to start swimming!

But seriously, just get in the water at your local pools, just start by playing, once you have gotten used to being in water see if they do swim lessons, you will likely end up swimming better than me, I'm self taught, did dog paddle the first 2-3 years
