I started self hosting with a home server last year, and had put it in a room in the house where there was an ethernet port.

Last week, me and my dad wired up the house with ethernet ports and a switch and now I want to move my home server from it's current location to a different room in the house.

Is there any sort of guidance or guide about how to properly move a server? I don't want to mess up my server since it is a repurposed old desktop. I also run Yunohost on it if that's important to know.

Not sure if you’re talking about guidance on physically moving it or something else like reserving the server’s IP address in the network, but you should be fine to simply pick it up and move it.

If the repurposed desktop is now massive or in a rack for some reason, you can always move one machine/box at a time. Unless the machine will experience a ton of shaking or dropping, there’s generally no need to take any hardware out if you’re just moving it to another room in the same building.

I think the biggest determination will be your IP addressing setup. Do you know if you are using static or DHCP based IP addresses?

Otherwise, just moving to a different port on a standard home ethernet setup shouldn't cause an issue
