Curious if I'm overthinking things or if this might actually be possible. I got out of detox yesterday and the experience was... Bad this time around. I was really triggered by my treatment by the staff and wanted to drink so badly. I didn't, but I did meet up with a few friends and have a few near beers. 3 over the course of 4 hours. By my calculation, that should be 0.18oz of alcohol max, if the brewery is to be believed.

They were Athletic, which is a pretty trusted brand. I didn't feel intoxication at all. It just helped with the cravings and stuff.

About 4 hours after my last one though, I could swear I had pretty bad withdrawal symptoms for about an hour and a half. Cold sweats, intense nausea, severe anxiety - granted I always have anxiety lingering around. No tremors thankfully, and it passed.

The only other idea I had was food poisoning from getting non hospital food, but I've never heard of food poisoning lasting that shortly.

Thoughts? Either way I'm staying away from the near beer for at least a week.

Just my thoughts:

Your body craves alcohol, you tricked yourself psychologically and gave it a tiny amount.

Your body did detect it and responds to that, there is a subconscious feeling off “the drug is here, now every will be ok again” but your body was expecting to get more like usual but did not, triggering worse withdrawal symptoms.

I would second this. I've gotten some pretty bad withdrawal symptoms from small amounts of alcohol after starting recovery.

Also, having gone through detox in a hospital 4 times. I can say you're in no way 100% recovered when they release you. It can take a week or more for the residual effects to fade.

Yeah this is my 5th time through detox, but only started drinking the NA beers somewhat recently to help with cravings and stuff. Never had one so early though cuz I usually don't get cravings till a couple weeks after getting sober. I'm gonna steer clear for at least a week. Thanks for your input!

Yeah I'm thinking it might be the case. And my anxiety probably fed into the perception of how bad the symptoms felt for a few. I'll be steering clear for a week. Thanks for your input
