I just finished watching Trigun Stampede. I didn't know they had rebooted this series. I loved the old series.

Likes: I really liked the new animation style, and how they completely focused on actual plot.

Dislikes: I thought the soundtrack in the new series was a bit lacking, and it was way less goofier. Character felt slightly flat compared to old series.

Edit: forgot to add that there is absolutely not a single LOVE AND PEACE! ✌️

Overall, I thought it was good. Waiting for next season.

What do you guys think?

I'm not too fussed with animation. Story is kinda different. Luke a new take on it. I much prefer the original. But seems I'm in minority and it's a strong fan base.

I'm with you.

I didn't like it. Death was treated so lightly in it. In the old one, Vash doesn't shoot his gun until episode 5 because a fancy action sequence wasn't the point. Nobody gets turned into bloody mist. Vash's pacifism and its consequences are explored in interesting ways.

And Knives doesn't play the organ. At that point, they should have just given him a mustache to twirl as that would have been subtler. He was a major disappointment in the new one.

More cliche and just bad, blunt directing with the percentage meter during the plant stuff in the final episode or two of the season as well.

I'm sure I could come up with more specifics if I reviewed each episode, but it generally lacked the charm, mystery, humor, and tension of the old one.

Spoilers: I liked the more serious tone. This was a tragedy. We weren't learning about Vash, this is Knives' story. Regards, I was feeling a little strained waiting for a bit of physical humor.

I had an issue with the animation at first. Something about it hit the uncanny valley for me. It wasn't that it wasn't realistic, it was TOO realistic but either the frame rate or the motion just was a bit off. I was having serious flashbacks to Knights of Sidonia.

I'll agree that the characters were a bit flat. A bit more humor could have made it more dynamic. Maybe it was lost in translation, or maybe the direction was to keep it serious.

What I loved was the amount of exposition explaining where they were, who Vash, Knives, and Wolfwood were. I appreciated getting some understanding of the tech and the plants.

I have no opinion about the music. It made no impression on me.

I have almost the same opinions.

The only thing I'd add is that I loved the opening song (and the opening sequence too).

Opening was great, IMHO.

I liked it overall, but I understand why people who liked the old series would be disappointed here. If the old series took the manga in a sillier, episodic direction, then Stampede decided to go the opposite way. Stampede weaves a coherent and dark narrative from the origins of Planet Gunsmoke, or I guess it's called something else this time, I actually can't recall.

I feel like Vash is almost a passenger along for the ride half the time here, and I believe that is an important thing for how the show ends. When he finally decides to stop being a passive participant, it's a great feeling. Knives lashing out at him and telling himt I his face that he is only being selfish was an incredible moment. Old show or new, the point of seeing his pacifist attitude lead to tragedy and hardship is to show that sometimes difficult decisions have to be made and doing nothing can be more harmful than doing something.

I'm hopeful for another season, and I think I'll end up watching it a second time at some point to go over everything again.

I've watched the original multiple times, but I also really ended up liking the new one much more than I anticipated once I got over all the differences.

I don't usually like the CGI style animation, but I think they kept it looking tasteful and it let then have much more detail in the set pieces of the final episodes than would look good in hand drawn style animation.

I'd agree with the comment that this is more Knive's story than Vash's, and Meryl as a secondary viewpoint. That made it feel more like something new than just being a reboot. Also I enjoyed the increased tube spent on Zazie the Beast and the orphanage.

I'd totally get someone not liking both. It's like The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly vs Aliens. Both are great, but the overall genres feel so different I totally get a sizeable group not I liking both.

Hopefully we'll get more of it because as more of a dark sci-fi person, I really enjoyed it.

I thought it was great but yeah still definitely prefer the original. I really love how mystical and organic it felt, the new one has a bit less of that feeling

I haven't seen anything Trigun before and loved it. The animation will be a hit or miss for people but I thought it was great. The opening is amazing and overall I really enjoyed the story and characters even if it's not objectively the best written show.
