It looks absolutely ridiculous and honestly I think it captures the spirit of OP pretty well. I wasn’t all that excited but now I am tbh…

It's definitely a different kind of humour and dialogue, but honestly I don't hate it. I think it can work.

So far, it actually looks ok? I think the most jarring part for me was when he said gum-gum instead of gomu gomu. And maybe I just haven't been keeping up but it's coming out a lot sooner than I thought it would.

That CGI is probably my biggest gripe with this entire trailer. Because it could be improved so much with some alternate shots and cutting.

The goal should be to avoid the uncanny valley as much as possible - so it should be quick, and the focus of the shots should be on the parts that don’t stretch.

That shot alone would be improved by having it start on Luffy shouting “Gum Gum” like it does, and showing the arm stretch in away from the focus of the camera. Then, rather than rotating, cut to the point where his fist will end up and have it approach and stop, before pulling the camera with it to hit Alvida.

That’s legitimately 1 cut and alternate angle for much of the stretching footage. And I think it could have looked so much better. The other problem is how shiny the fist is, that’s not really how flesh reflects light, but I feel like that’s an easier fix in future seasons if we get them.

I'm actually quite excited, most things looked better than expected. There are still some awkwardness not due to a lack of effort but I think the nature of adaptation, not worth moaning about all things considered. Rather look forward to the end of the summer.

an interesting lack of CGI, except where obviously needed. i like that.
it still looks corny

I mean, it's One Piece.

It's... actually not as bad as I feared. The one complaint I have is that Luffy seems a little bit self aware. He's usually more oblivious. That scene in the trailer where he goes, "I'm sensing a little bit of tension in the crew," is a little out of character. He'd be more likely to say, "They're getting along well!" after seeing them arguing.

On the other hand I feel like the final scene with Zoro where Luffy says that they should say their finishing move is super on brand. Usopp, Chopper and Franky would be there agreeing with him.

Yeah, the one thing I hope they really nail is character + character interactions because that's most of what I love one piece for. I'm not super optimistic, but I'm really hoping they prove me wrong

netflix adaptations are always hilariously bad. watching the trailer here it seems okayish? I'm skeptical though.
