Rules for /c/communism

Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.

  1. No non-marxists

This subreddit is here to facilitate discussion between marxists.

There are other communities aimed at helping along new communists. This community isn't here to convert naysayers to marxism.

If you are a member of the police, armed forces, or any other part of the repressive state apparatus of capitalist nations, you will be banned.

  1. No oppressive language

Do not attempt to justify your use of oppressive language.

Doing this will almost assuredly result in a ban. Accept the criticism in a principled manner, edit your post or comment accordingly, and move on, learning from your mistake.

We believe that speech, like everything else, has a class character, and that some speech can be oppressive. This is why speech that is patriarchal, white supremacist, cissupremacist, homophobic, ableist, or otherwise oppressive is banned.

TERF is not a slur.

  1. No low quality or off-topic posts

Posts that are low-effort or otherwise irrelevant will be removed.

This is not a place to engage in meta-drama or discuss random reactionaries on lemmy or anywhere else.

This includes memes and circlejerking.

This includes most images, such as random books or memorabilia you found.

We ask that amerikan posters refrain from posting about US bourgeois politics. The rest of the world really doesn’t care that much.

  1. No basic questions about marxism

Posts asking entry-level questions will be removed.

Questions like “What is Maoism?” or “Why do Stalinists believe what they do?” will be removed, as they are not the focus on this forum.

  1. No sectarianism

Marxists of all tendencies are welcome here.

Refrain from sectarianism, defined here as unprincipled criticism. Posts trash-talking a certain tendency or marxist figure will be removed. Circlejerking, throwing insults around, and other pettiness is unacceptable.

If criticisms must be made, make them in a principled manner, applying Marxist analysis.

The goal of this subreddit is the accretion of theory and knowledge and the promotion of quality discussion and criticism.

Also if possible try to include Mao’s quotations, as I also have that book but I keep it in my car 24/7. The untitled ones are Anarchism or Socialism by Stalin and Marxism and the Natl. Question by Stalin. I kinda know already where last place is going, but I will say Pikkety is the one author (If I had to choose only one) that changed my mind on China at a very pivotal point in my political development.)

Happen to know the Mao quote on needing connection between soldiers and generals? I've never been able to find it.

I don’t know off-hand, but I am inspired to read the rest of Mao’s quotations to finish it and find that quote

Nice, you’ve got the essentials. I’ve got a bit of a weirder collection. Things just adjacent to a basic Marxist reading list. I’ve got Imperialism by Lenin, Anti-Duhring by Engels, Red star over the third world by prishad, Capital vol 1 by Marx, and the role of communists in the black liberation movement (pcusa book). I’ve also got some succdem theory with evil geniuses by Anderson and some lefty fiction with March book 1, v for vendetta, and god loves man kills X-men. My parents also have Black Agaisnt Empire, Pedagogy of the oppressed, and some liberation theology stuff.

I’ve heard of a few of those titles, how do you like V for Vendetta, I kinda wanna see the movie but idk if the book is way better

I thought the book was pretty good. A little too Anarchisty and unrealistic but it’s a superhero book so that’s fine. Relatively good political messaging and interesting esoteric and philosophical story telling. Unfortunately there was one anti-Stalin panel where v says humanity has submitted itself to bad leaders with a picture of Stalin as one of the visual examples, but I let it slide, not painfully anarchildish overall. I haven’t seen the movie so I can’t compare.

Really? I’m a bit surprised, most people know about it from the movie, myself included. I heard it was really good tho. I should check it out soon. Then perhaps I can add it to my non-Marxist reading list

Idk actually. My view is sideways?

Book titles are commonly oriented a quarter turn clockwise. You can note that the authors in your phoros e.g., Piketty, are upside down.

It may be because I took the picture landscape instead of portrait

Oh, I see! They are stacked on a table, not on a bookshelf. Thanks for the reminder that we should check our own perspective. I have a copy of Capital which I've been meaning to read--sounds like it is worth the time.

Yea lol I forgot to mention it was on top of a desk
