Welcome to Cassette Futurism Lemmy and Mbin Community.

A place to share and discuss Cassette Futurism: media where the technology closely matches the computers and technology of the 70s and 80s.

Whether it's bright colors and geometric shapes, the tendency towards stark plainness, or the the lack of powerful computers and cell phones, Cassette Futurism includes: Cassettes, ROM chips, CRT displays, computers reminiscent of microcomputers like the Commodore 64, freestanding hi-fi systems, small LCD displays, and other analog technologies.

Holy shit it's actually affordable.

Yeah I was expecting $500+

It's a sampler, not a synth.

That's awesome!
Nice to see more people posting :)

I know, and did that. The link didn’t show up for some reason, so I commented with it.

I shamelessly hate everything TE has ever done. Their shit is underpowered for the price, and looks like a children's toy. This thing looks like a shitty third party answering machines accessory for the NES from like 1985. But for some reason the hipsters love the minimal aesthetics squonky bleep bloop boxes. Meanwhile I could buy three kinds of volcas for half the price and actually have a functional setup.

They're primarily a design company. The aesthetic is the selling point. It's like buying a Mac to play videogames. It'll play em, but not as well as something much cheaper.

I don’t have any expertise on this sort of thing to weigh in… so I’ll defer to you there, and would humbly suggest the aesthetic is the important part for this community.

And your Mac analogy has been true for a long time, but is becoming outdated ;)

Oh, I know. It's got that aesthetic that we're here for for sure.

But instead of making music with your functional setup you're here complaining vehemently about something you hate to people who don't. k
