Hey all. A bunch of seemingly ex Superstonkers or something have descended on Lemmy. I’ve held GME and Superstonk on Lemmy World since the Reddit APIocalypse five months ago.

Who are you guys and why is there a sudden influx? I was wondering when you’d show up and why it never happened in July (I was the only one).

Thanks and DRS your shit!

I also hold GME and lurked in Superstonk. Some time ago I had read Ryan Cohen bought a lot of BBBY stock. So I bought some too and loosely followed that subreddit. August 2022 RC supposedly "sold" his BBBY position. I can't say I had any foresight into what the bigger picture was but I believed RC was still involved, besides if I sold my bbby I would have lost money. So I held and bought more. In the spring a fella named PPSeeds started a YouTube channel and subreddit (not sure of dates) where you can get together and shoot the shit, perhaps talking about your favorite stock in a non financial advice way... For me, we flash forward to post July when my third party Reddit app stopped working. I tried Lemmy but ultimately went back to the stock Reddit app. I was getting all sorts of weird subreddit recommendations, things I've never seen before (sidenote I now know what "Snoots and Boots" refers to, lol). One interesting subreddit recommendation the native app offered was ThePPShow. I found where a lot of the OG apes had migrated to and it became my go-to place. Yesterday ThePPshow subreddit was shut down without explanation from the Reddit mods and we scattered to X communities and @hey_ross was smart and quick enough to snag us a a Lemmy community. I hope we gain a good foothold here as it seems like a stable platform where future DD posts can't be removed.

Well, welcome. It’s infinitely better than Reddit!

Condescending Sparkel was concerned about our investment choices, she tried to convince us otherwise, found out our thesis where strong, and unwavering. She lost her arguments, her handlers saw there was only one way, that was to nuke the thriving r/ppshow sub.

The sub was genuine and wholesome like SS in the beginning.

[–] TheEstrangedDingo 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It also shared similarities with the original GME stub too, before the second migration to SS. As for the nuking the sub, it mirrors the DRSyourGME nuking almost to the exact stanza.

[–] MentlgenRich 2 points 10 months ago

Yeah, ever since DRSyour GME got nuked, I noticed a lot less purple circles. Superstonk mods probably finally decided to start scrubbing circles like they always pushed for

There’s a sudden influx because the subreddit got shut down yesterday. The subreddit complimented the Ppshow that is streamed live on YouTube and discusses GME and BBBY

OP, are you not aware of the Lemmy instance hosted by the DRSGME folks?

There are some great communities there, such as:

[–] Mission_to_Uranus 5 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I'm new to Lemmy. Do you have to have a separate account for each instance or am I doing something wrong?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 10 months ago (3 children)

It's a great question and you aren't doing anything wrong.

The answer is: no, you do not need a separate account for each instance.

Lemmy is great and I love it but it is not as beginner friendly as it could be and not as seamless as it could be. I believe in due time it will get better, but regardless we're working with what we've got.

Anyone on any instance can participate and interact with anyone else or any other community on any other instance. Once you've subscribed to a few communities (on Lemmy, "subreddits" are called communities) on various instances, then it's easy to find that content under your Subscribed feed. But finding those communities initially can be tricky sometimes.

My account is on the instance hosted at lemmy.whynotdrs.org, whereas your account is on the instance hosted at lemmy.world. I am replying to you from my home instance, from this post . It's the same post that you are currently seeing and participating in, but your are seeing the post through your instance.

If the server that is hosting lemmy.whynotdrs.org suddenly stopped working, I would no longer have access to my account or any of the content hosted on that instance, whereas you would still be able to use Lemmy because your account is available on a different server hosting lemmy.world.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Anyone on any instance can participate and interact with anyone else or any other community on any other instance.

Except, if for example, one server blocks another server, which sometimes happens when one server is hosting types of content that other servers are not okay with, or if one server is particularly belligerent then other instance admins may tend to block those ones. In which case, if there is a block between two instances then you would not be able to interact with a person on that blocked instance.

[–] Mission_to_Uranus 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Thank you for the info! Wow. So in the example you gave...would all of your comments on different communities vanish and I would not be able to see them if your home instance went down?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

No, the comments would not disappear. So long as a copy of the content is hosted on your instance, you'll have access to it. For example if a thread originates from a community on your instance, e.g. this thread we're in, and I make these comments here, and my home server went down, you should still be able to see and interact with all of my comments here.

Nice. Thanks again for the Lemmy 101. I have a better understanding of how it works now.

Jersan, you’re a legend. Thanks for all the insight and awareness to lemmy I’ve seen you spread over the past months 💪🦍💜🦍

[–] [email protected] 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

thanks buddy! I'm happy to be a part of the Lemmy community and happy to see other people here as well.

Thank you! :)

Hello folks!

I'm one of the admins here on Lemmy World and I saw people having some questions about Lemmy and how things work with different instances and servers.

I think it would be best to start here to get an idea how federation works and this post will help you with some more detailed options https://lemmy.world/post/6086181

[–] Ppseeds 10 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Hey thank you so much never used this before but very similar to Reddit. Do you mind me asking how I can modify the upvote and downvotes? I’d like them to look like dildos is that possible lol. Also what exactly is allowed here? Can our subs be removed here?

[–] omaha 8 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

you have 3 questions, ask wisely...

Ppseeds: How can I make the arrows look like dildos? 🤣 classic pp cutting through the bs

[–] Deuces 7 points 10 months ago

If your asking if the lemmy gods can swoop in and ban an entire community (sub), the answer is technically yes, but for all practical purposes no. Each lemmy instance (each website that interacts with lemmy) can ban a community from their server, but it will just pop up on another one. The original instance can then defederate from the instance hosting the remade community, but it will only disappear for people that are using the instance that defederated. The best thing to do is have a couple accounts on different lemmys to see all the things that have been defederated from your home instance. I have one account on lemmy.world and one on kbin.social, but there are tons more to pick from.

[–] antik 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Custom themes are not available (yet?) unfortunately.

What do you mean if subs can be removed? You can ban people from your community for sure.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 10 months ago

Digital refugee checking in. OG with 1,700 Jimmy and 810 Bobby DRS’d. I survived the sub migrations only to get the ban hammer in SS for posting a mod deleted post to r/theppshow.
