More serious politics should go in [email protected].

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Sounds like there is confusion about what is meant by a ‘herd immunity strategy’ with people talking past each other.

I have no doubt there were discussions saying (without a vaccine) infections would only recede with herd immunity

That’s not the same as proposing a ‘let it rip’ strategy.

What happened to our collective brains that this keeps happening?

"Tax the rich"? Sounds like socialism to me. Guess you want to own nothing

"Herd Immunity"? Why do you want the virus to win and kill everyone?

"Stop bombing children in Gaza"? Sounds like you want Hamas to run the government!

Like, how does momentum towards a goal equate to insert any given conclusion 10 years down the line, thus no positive change now? WHY ARE WE LIKE THIS!?

WHY ARE WE LIKE THIS!?

I think there's a definate endorphin rush associated with righteous outrage, it's really compelling - and the same with seeing "your team" win and the other's lose. Compare that with the annoying cognitive dissonance of trying to examine other points of view honestly. I'm certainly not immune.
