Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! ✈️

An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! 🇵🇭

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

As a foreigner living in the Philippines. I was surprised by this, but I didn’t mind. It just isn’t like this where I am from.

I’ve been here for a long time now, and I totally get it. Some people do not have a place to work at home. Some people who work good jobs don’t even have internet at home. Just when phones connection.

It’s kind of necessary for this space to be used in this manner.

I'm honestly surprised Filipinos called him out. I was expecting them to side with him considering that 1) he's white, and 2) they hate Starbucks and those who dabble in it.

Fortunately they gave the Scot shit for it because it just reeked of smug entitlement and a lack of self-awareness. For most people, coffee shops are the only place where you could do group work. Libraries are increasingly rare these days, and newer families could only afford a tinny condo that could barely fit 2.
