Let's talk about the new pocket Evercade: The HyperMegaTech Super Pocket.

Anyone else get one?

I was pleasantly surprised by several aspects of mine:

  • I knew from early reviews, and the specs that the screen would be good. But somehow I didn't expect the screen to be this good.
  • The sound stays muted between reboots. Many devices in this size and price don't remember their sound setting, and so make a boot sound every time.
  • Most (all?) Evercade games save to the cart, not to the system. So I can resume my progress started on my Evercade VS.
  • The built in games on the Taito model are all bangers.
  • There's a lot of Evercade titles that really shine for playing for a few minutes while waiting in a doctor's office lobby or something. So much if this game collection shines in pocket form. Particularly Indie Heroes and Oliver Twins.

Disappointing:

  • There's not a lot of Evercade games that use L1 through R2, but I am, so far, not enjoying the placement of those buttons. I'm happy to have the buttons there at all, at this price, but I hope future versions might move them up a bit for a more relaxed grip.
  • The available cases for it spoil it fitting into a pocket. I'll probably add a screen protector instead.
  • The included Taito games would be absolutely worth it to rebuy for playing on Evercade VS. I hope they get a cartridge release.

Overall:

I wanted this for it's pocket convenience, and it surpassed my expectations.

I didn't think it'd be any good so I only got the Taito one. I actually ended up liking it so I ordered the special edition pack and plan to use this one as my 'on the go' Evercade. The only thing I don't like is you can't adjust the screen brightness. This makes the screen blinding to me in the dark. Other than that I like it better than my EXP for 'on the go.' The Super Pocket is smaller, lighter and doesn't get hot the way my EXP does. The screen is letterbox so you don't have the 'black bars' with much of the Evercade library. I did find some of the blue carts weren't as playable due to the scaling but those aren't much better with the EXP; some are just better on the VS 'big screen.'

I’ll probably add a screen protector instead.

Are there screen protectors for these? I haven't seen any yet but I'd be interested. I got one of the little Aenllosi cases for carrying around.

The Taito lineup sounds pretty cool, would be great if there would be a stand alone cartridge of those games for the Evercade.

Mhm why HyperMegaTech (it sounds super childish) though? Why not just distribute it under their Blaze Entertainment brand?

It is a silly name. I think it belonged to a game system in the past, and they're reviving the name, but I'm having trouble finding a source on that idea.

Per this, all of their products that share a brand with a license holder expect to go under "HyperMegaTech" in the future:

So I guess if they ever made one that didn't ship with Taito or Capcom games, then it would just be an Evercade Pocket?
