I think the bot broke because it made like 10 similarly named posts

It’s been doing that all week

We're used to 3, but over 10 is too much abundance

We may have more duplicate posts than comments in june.

Over at reddit, where there's a major shaving competition going on. I have tried to reach out several times here and on the mastodon instance, but to no avail. I guess we'll have to muddle through until the end of the month at least.

If bot issues get further out of hand, I'm considering moving over to mastodon, hoping that someday it will get cleaned up here 🙄

I get the impression that many instances experience lag, probably because of the sudden influx of Reddit refugees. Multiple postings seem to be common as clients make multiple attempts without getting a timely answer from the server. Perhaps the bot has the same problem?

Glad it isn't just me seeing that I thought Lemmy was broken

Anybody think we’ll get more traffic here with the end of 3rd party Reddit apps?

I don't think so.

Edit: Let me elaborate a bit. There will be the Lather Games, which many people are very hyped about, and whatever had been their app, by the end of the month, they will have gotten used to the official app or the web page. There will be every incentive not to switch tomorrow.

Our admins of the Lemmy here are both judges for the LG, and lack the time to clean up the bot issues. And bot issues are getting worse every day. Frankly, for the moment, our Lemmy doesn't look that hot to newcomers (and even to the old hands). Events have conspired against this place 😭

So, even if there were any opportunity now with the shutdown of 3rd party apps (which I doubt), I don't think we're in a position to take advantage of it. At this point, I suspect that the Mastodon instance is in better shape than the lemmy.

It's also pretty dead here. Almost every post has no comments.

Well, I just arrived and have to confess that I’m still a bit disoriented in the fediverse. I was a longtime Apollo user and while the demise of that app isn’t the end of the world for me, I simply won’t use the official app. I still follow a few subs on RES, but who uses social media on a laptop anymore? In the long run, I’ll most probably pull out of Reddit. I just installed wefwef and appreciate the obvious effort to copy the (indeed very good) Apollo user interface - from what I hear, other apps are doing the same.

The bot here is indeed a major drawback and I think we would be better off without it until it works properly. Right now there’s too much structure for too little content. At least someone should weed out the superfluous copies.

Otherwise, we may as well start to contribute content.
