I wish I could say I had principles, but frankly I'm just here out of a combination of spite and the fact that I genuinely hate the official Reddit app too much to ever use it.

If you’re looking for an Apollo like app for Lemmy check out MemmyApp. It feels really similar to me.

Seconded! I’ve only been using it for a day but it’s a very natural transition from Apollo.

I’m really impressed with Memmy. It’s such a young app yet already so good!

[–] MindfuckRocketship 2 points 2 years ago

Feels almost like Apollo already. Thanks.

In my opinion Mlem is more similar to Apollo and better

[–] MysticSmear 1 points 2 years ago

I’m using both at the moment. Both feel good. Providing feedback and testing them. Mlem tho has an image rendering bug for me that’s pretty prevalent so I haven’t been using it as much.

That’s what I’m using right now, although ArtemusApp (not released yet) is looking very nice. Their design mentality is to recreate Apollo’experience for Lemmy and Kebin (yes it will be able to login to both in the same app) it’s currently in Alpha Test. m/[email protected]

I’ll have to keep an eye out for it.

Even Reddit degenerates have redeeming qualities!

I never thought I was a super principled person, turns out I am, infact, very opinionated. Dear me, what will I ever do?

I'll admit that I still go on reddit for my custom multi-subreddits. I try to use lemmy as much as I can but until they implement some sort of custom-multi community function I can't entirely switch over. Lemmy is simply too fragmented between instances. Lemmy would benefit tremendously if we could group communities into custom multi-threads instead of having to visit each community on several instances. I do keep mobile browsing to liftoff for lemmy though.

Is there some sort of official feedback channel for things such as this?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

I'm sure it's a feature that's already been suggested so it's only a matter of time. I know I already suggested it on my instance feedback thread.

Ahh, that feeling of moral superiority

Guys, this is gonna sound super stupid, but I’ve just started using Memmy. I’m a bit confused and wondering if someone could help me out. So subreddits would translate into communities? I’ve tried finding a lot of communities but couldn’t find them, like subreddits, do you guys wait for them to be created or something? Is lemmy a new thing? I’ve been trying to find something other than Reddit as I’m an Apollo user and well, imma have to use something else!

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago

yeah subreddits = communities mostly works, but there are also multiple instances of those communities. For example, there's [email protected] but also [email protected] and probably a bunch more. They're separate communities, hosted on separate instances with separate moderators. If you're interested in "gaming" content, you'll probably want to subscribe to both, and that's easy

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Lemmy is a few years old, but was a slow moving personal project up until a month ago, so there are still some kinks being worked out. For finding communities, try using lemmyverse.net, I've found it has basically every community catalogued. If the community doesn't come up in your search, then your instance probably hasn't federated yet and just wait a bit, when you search a community for the first time your instance will start loading it in and it will show up in a few minutes.

[–] MothBookkeeper 2 points 2 years ago

Check out wefwef also if you liked Apollo.

[–] NutWrench 2 points 2 years ago

You can also use Lemmy explorer to search all the Lemmy Instances for the community you want. As long as your Instance is federated with theirs (most of them are), you can subscribe and post to that community from your Instance, without having to create a new account on theirs.

What's happening on Reddit now? Anyone know? I haven't been back there for weeks at this point. I'm quite enjoying Lemmy as a replacement thus far, though it will take a while for it to replicate what was Reddit.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm quite enjoying that it doesn't replicate Reddit

[–] dustojnikhummer 1 points 2 years ago

Oh trust me, it does. Mostly in sense of entitlement and politics. I was kinda hoping we would leave that behind but nope...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

It's pretty awful, honestly. I was disappointed that so many communities seem to be active, but the majority of large subs are still closed. It seems like 90% of the front page material now is stuff like AITAH and Whitepeopletwitter (basically lowest common denominator trash). Anything of substance is basically gone. Which makes me happy, honestly.

I check in a couple of times a day to look in my vinyl subs for deals and new releases, but that's the only thing it's good for now.

Morally inclined Redditor here!

[–] Ketchup 4 points 2 years ago

Damn you, this is even better than the one I posted earlier !!

[–] Variden3301 4 points 2 years ago

Reddit is becoming worse and worse tbh. That is why I am here. And also for fediverse reasons
