Acquaintance wanted a "rustic-looking picture frame" made out of "barn wood" for a jigsaw puzzle. I asked how fancy they wanted it. They said "Not at all." Okay then - here ya go.

This is most of my woodworking. Pallet wood trunks and laptop stands and recycling boxes. Eventually it becomes your aesthetic and everything is 'rustic'. In reality I don't have the attention span for a project that lasts longer than a weekend.

I start my projects going for modern and sheek. By the end of the project ive usually switched to rustic and rough.

I usually strongly avoid any kind of project that could be considered rustic, uses reclaimed wood, and isn't accurate to within the 1/32nd of an inch. I'm a big fan of using overpriced lumber and hardwoods that don't grow in my home country. I obsess over small details and joints that don't feel smooth to the touch.

That being said, you did a great job. It's difficult to walk the line between a rustic look and an "I don't know what I'm doing" look. You obviously know how to do it. If you had wanted to make a frame that looks rustic but still shows craftsmanship, you hit the mark.
