I like using AdGuard DNS profile on iOS. I have been using it for years and it works great!
Second this - AdGuard DNS profile is the best experience on iOS IMO. Blocks ads system-wide, in all apps.
Thanks I’ll need to look into that!
I use nextdns and Firefox focus content blocker extension
I don’t have much experience with adguard but have been using 1blocker for years and have been happy with it. It’s of course not system wide ad blocking (it won’t block YouTube ads for example) but it works great in safari.
I use AdGuard. Used it for years - with brief stints of 1Blocker - and I feel like AdGuard blocks more ads and breaks less sites.
That’s really helpful to know, thanks!!!
The "blocks more ads" part is probably mostly because AdGuard allows you to add the "normal" blocklists that you find all around the Internet (plus it has a large collection of built-in ones already).
IIRC 1Blocker uses its own format, which isn't as prevalent.
Couldn’t find on their page if it’s open source, if it’s not then that’s a big no-no
For me personally proprietary is not always a deal breaker tbh!
Yeah, but adblock is a kind of software that will have access to literally all pages you visit, so I wouldn’t trust any company that they’re not doing anything sneaky under the hood
Makes sense
I use both: 1Blocker on device itself (since I bought lifetime long ago) And than adGuard via UnboundDNS on my OpnSense which I connect to via VPN
Just make sure to whitelist YouTube, if you need your viewing history
Regarding the dns, do you prefer AdGuard compared to Nextdns. In that case, why?
I like using AdGuard AdBlocker and AdGuard DNS on my phone and my laptop
