They must not be on that much. I don’t know how you could have missed every blackout post in the last week.
Friend of mine didn't know about the blackout. They almost fell out of their chair when I told them. Sweet summer child...
Sadly the average person is completely oblivious, not just with reddit news but most things in general.
Considering how many thousands of subreddits are closed down, and how many others have posts restricted but show a sticky with info, that’s quite an accomplishment!
I am (was) active in some smaller niche subs (certain crafts, mostly) and quite a lot of users in those subs didn't know what was going on. I guess some users only use Reddit for a few specific subs, and somehow manage not to see /r/all, etc.
Probably on autopilot. I’ve definitely absent mindedly opened the site a few times.
Go up to him, whisper "the narwhal bacons again", and slip him a piece of paper with https://join-lemmy.org/ on it.
Approach in a trench coat and fedora - “Eyy kid. You’s ever hoid of da Fedivoise?”
"The fedivoise" really paints the picture here lmao
this just brought back memories of better times.
/r/outoftheloop stayed open but locked with a sticky about the blackout. Hopefully that'll help some people
IIRC they announced they would stay open specifically so people could ask about the blackout.
Honestly that’s probably for the best.
Eli5 is up too. They put a message up in solidarity but didn't actually shut down. There's a lot of very confused people in there asking questions.
I’m pretty sure ELI5 did the same thing.
I did it guys. I officially moved Reddit is Fun out of my home buttons on my phone and replaced it with Jerboa for Lemmy. Clicking that button is muscle memory. I've opened it like 10 times today on accident.
I had to do the same, just kept mindlessly opening reddit throughout the day. Maybe it's for the best for me to quit reddit, regardless if the blackouts achieve anything substantial...
I rat-brained and clicked my shortcut (now deleted) and actually got the "UH OH REDDIT IS DOWN AND IT'S YOUR FAULT, JERK" picture a couple times, rofl. Seems like they're getting ddosed too, or y'know regular shitty reddit responding to any traffic
on a train in the US
What is the joke here, friend? There are indeed choo-choos in the Americas..
Amtrack?
Plenty of US cities have non-Amtrak trains…
Amtrack is more regional than in-city public transportation
Indeed!
Most of the big cities have light rails and/or subways and/or Amtrak service.
Our train lines are just criminally slow. I used to live on a light rail line and on the far side of the Lightroom line was my work. I could drive 30 minutes each way everyday, or I could spend almost 2 hours riding the train over the same route.
