It's substacks like this one that have helped me realize that the conservative talking points I grew up believing in were always the sanitized version, that we've never not had fascists pushing hard to influence our politics and their home has always been the Republican party.
Seeing it laid out with primary sources explains so much. (FWIW, Cotlar is a History PhD that focuses on 20th century politics)
