Try to focus on games that reasonably could've gone the other way if not for a couple of key plays. My picks:

  • 1998 Big 12 Championship Game: Would've put Kansas State, IMO one of the greatest single-season teams to not win it all, in the title game only a decade after being labeled Futility U by Sports Illustrated. Would've completed the greatest program build (not rebuild; Kansas State had no history before Snyder) in sports history.
  • 2010 Boise State-Nevada: Anyone watching CFB back then could tell this was the moment Boise State's program momentum started dwindling. They would've played in the Rose Bowl, been better the following season, and that may have been enough to edge out TCU and finish undefeated the following season as well, perhaps garnering enough support for a title game bid.
  • 2011 Oklahoma State-Iowa State: I'm pretty sure this is the upset most neutral CFB fans would overturn. As an LSU fan, my reasoning is obvious.
