Been trying to add [email protected] and have tried to be patient, but it’s still not showing up for me. Also having issues getting to some over at sh.itjust.works.

Hey!

This is a known lemmy bug. Once you click search once, go back to our community list, select All and it will be there.

Cheers!

Hi again! Wanted to confirm if we can federate with kbin instances. I've been trying to add [email protected] for a while. Am I just being impatient again or is there an incompatibility?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hmmmm, I think it is possible, because we both speak "activitypub". I tried to view https://fedia.io/c/random and the page is blank. It's probably their end and their instance crashing.

Check the sidebar for links to the Lemmy.ml support community, and have a search on that one. Someone surely has answered if kbin and Lemmy can talk to each other

On the "Linked Instances" page for reddthat, it shows up, so I think it *should *work and may just being hugged to death. Confirmed it works on lemmy.ml, though they may have federated the community when fedia was working better. Might be worth checking the logs, but not a big deal, thanks Tiff!

Thanks Tiff! I think it was a combo of being impatient and that sh.itjust.works seems to be having some issues; I was able to get to all the beehaw ones I was looking for.

I am so confused. I cannot figure out how to subscribe to federated subs on other instances. I'm trying to sub to these but I cannot figure it out.

Gah, ok I literally just figured it out. You can subscribe from the link you get when you post the federated name in the lemmy.world search ok.

Also, someone needs to have subscribed to the community on your local instance already before your instance knows about it. You can trigger your instance to “find” the community by going to Communities > All and searching [email protected], waiting a few seconds, and then subscribing. Though with all the new traffic, federation can get backlogged.
