Full disclosure, I work in a CVICU, not anesthesia, but we’ve been experiencing shortages of Swans due to a filament not being available. Has anyone else noticed that? Has that affected your workflow?

It’s mostly not being able to directly measure temperature, which is fine through the foley, but also no PA pressure and a less accurate SVR and CI make it a little less reassuring managing pressures.

What is a swan in this context?

A pulmonary arterial catheter for measuring PA pressures and core temperature. Sorry, everyone I know uses the term “swan” for a Swan-Ganz PA catheter so I assumed it was a common terminology.

Thank you. I am not a medical expert.
