I don't follow Winnipeg closely at all, but this is the first post I've seen anywhere that wasn't overwhelmingly positive about those huge extensions.
My own reaction as a longtime hockey fan upon seeing two 30 year old vets signed to huge 7 year extensions was "wtf, seriously?"
I don't predict this actually happening, but hypothetically one or both of these guys could fall off a cliff as soon as this year and it could end up being disastrous for the Jets. In the case where things go south, you guys are looking at LTIRetiring somebody or an unappetizing buyout(s). And not like I'm trying to poop on the Jets (dude my team is the Flyers, we have fucking SUCKED for the last decade), but the article is right, they had a chance to pivot and start in a new direction once both of those guys' contracts expired at the end of this year.
