Due to the rather niche nature of the Neptunia franchise, feel free to check out these other communities for more discussions (and tell them that I said hi):

The series has been evolving ever so slowly but surely and for the amount of time VII has been released, it's prime time to discuss what the potential NEXT Nep game will be! The last few years have given some more insights to the late 8th gen console, the Nintendo Switch and later the 9th gen consoles which are the Playstation 5 and Xbox X series notably. Not only that but the revolutionary Steam Deck is another interesting console to write about.

They could even venture into the PC Master Race territory, which is something the series is not shy about referencing. PC games are now more relevant than ever, after all. There isn't anything insane that's happened in the gaming industry like with the fall of SEGA/Atari or the content drought that is the Golden Age of Piracy but they could still talk about other minor industry problems and going back to the good old console wars. If the next game is what I think it will be, it'd be interesting to see the dynamics of the Nintendo Switch.

Will it be Blanc's upgrade? Rom and Ram's upgrade or do they do a Fusion dance to become one CPU? What would be the overaching 'big' plot of the next game? And if possible, what do you think the next potential NEW CPU will be? Finally, what kind of Villains do you imagine will take place as the leading roles? (Aside from Arfoire of course)

I've been thinking about what would happen if Idea Factory and Compile Heart made a series of games going back and explaining certain parts of the lore more. This way, players will be able to understand why and how certain things are the way they are in the games. Examples of this could be:

  • What was the PC Continent like prior to the events in VII and SvS? Who governed the area?
  • Who really was Uranus? What did she look like? Who were the other goddesses during her tenure as Planeptune's CPU?
  • What was life like in the Zero Dimension before Kurome and the Dark CPUs started destroying everything?

I also had thoughts about how the girls would represent the 9th generation of consoles (PS5, Xbox Series, Switch). Would they enter a state beyond the NEXT forms from VII? Would they fuse together and form one unit? If fusion were to come into play, could all four goddesses merge into one as well?

As much as I would like to answer this question, I too have several of my own that I hope to get answered some day.

I have yet to finish SvS so no further insight there but I can answer some of your other questions. Who really was Uranus?

Simple, that was Uzume Tennouboushi. Who's name in japanese translates to Uranus Uzume. The Uranus part of her name has a double meaning, one for the Sega's given planet codenames and two, Uranus spoken in Japanese meant something akin to something that 'won't sell' (uranu). A sadly fitting name for Sega's last entry in the Console War.

Who were the other goddesses during her tenure in as Planeptune's CPU? From what I gathered in Megadimension, Histoire mentioned how there were multiple Planeptune CPUs evidenced by her quoting Planeptune's first CPU. To which Neptune replied, "wasn't her name SG or SC?" That's Sega's first console. From MK2/Re;birth 2, it was said that CPUs that were retired or forgotten about were laid to rest in the Gamindustri Graveyard. Most of the consoles there were indeed old retro consoles. It's likely other Sega and previous Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft consoles were also laid to rest there. Plutia, was also an aforementioned CPU in a different dimension, the one who stole Neptune's place, the Sega Mega Drive. Super Neptunia RPG (albiet a spinoff) provides a lot of insight into the creation and end of CPUs. I will go into some spoilers but I will mark them. I will not name any CPUs.

spoilerThere were two distinct CPUs in Super Neptunia RPG, and the amnesiac heroes at some point in the story release Histoire from the tome. It was revealed that the four goddesses became human and lost their memories because of that. The two CPUs were revealed to be the first two Console Patron Units in the world and one of them, the first one is heavily implied to be the true goddess. Despite this being a spinoff, this development has some merit. First of all, there's more than one character we know apart from Neptune's group and Arfoire that appear in the game (prominent character from a mainline game). There is also implied continuation of the story inbetween Re;birth 1 and Re;birth 2, such as Histoire's different appearance and the goddesses becoming CPUs again. Histoire told the first CPU that it was impossible for her to become a CPU again, as she became human. She told her how since Neptune and the others are replacements for her role, she wasn't needed anymore. Similar to real life, consoles get outdated and they stop manufacturing. END SPOILERS

What was life like in the Zero Dimension before Kurome and the Dark CPUs started destroying everything? That's also simple, the dreamcast destroyed the nation of Planeptune, in irl events. If nations are formed on the beliefs of CPUs, then the dreamcast ending meant Planeptune was doomed. The Dark CPUs were basically Neptune, Noire, Blanc and Vert's new consoles killing her off, but it is later known that Uzume created Heart Dimension and Zero Dimension. So this belief was basically her nightmares coming into fruition. In short: Zero Dimension or the place Uzume was protecting, was indeed the remains of a destroyed Planeptune.
