Random Old Memes and ✨Stuff✨

Got sick of bigots, and pedants, and trying to figure out if something is “meme enough” to count, and of feeling like I’m spamming other spaces, and very quickly of the lemmy UI too (still love you blahaj.zone!) so am opening my own space where I can make my own rules and post my collection in peace. ❗BE WARNED: SOME OF THE IMAGES YOU SEE HERE MAY NOT TECHNICALLY BE MEMES❗ Now that we got that out of the way, let the infodump commence! Expect a mix of slightly outdated: mostly leftist (but never tankie) content, many cats, and some general old memes I’ve collected over the years. There are many, so will try to mix it up! Update: looks like 🐝Beehaw🐝 have banned this magazine. If you want real leftism rather than "nice" (more like "unchallenging to the status quo and the comfort of libs") leftism, I guess you'll have to follow from elsewhere!

tweet by The Wokest Bae @splendidrainco:

White people are always screaming about how we want to live in an "echochamber" because we won't hear out people who disagree with us like yes Karen, I want to scream into the void that black people deserve to live unbothered and that's the only sentiment I want to hear in return

-end image description-

So turns out there is an ongoing bug on the fediverse where moderation doesn't federate properly, meaning that some removed comments stay up and active, and some banned users remain not-banned and free to continue interacting on their own instances that aren't federating (so out of my sight and control), mainly lemmy.world.

This is a problem, especially for a space like this which I intended to be safe and free of the bigoted/bad faith/reactionary noise that exists everywhere else, where we validate each others existences and experiences instead of having to justify and defend them.

Moderating already takes more time and mental focus than I was expecting, and if it actually was effective I really wouldn't mind, but it obviously isn't, and I don't like wasting those on a futile task.

So for now, and until this is hopefully fixed, I will be taking a big step back. I probably will still post once in a while just to keep the magazine alive, but nothing that would require any heavy modding (which excludes a lot of what I have to share lol), but rest assured, if and when the bug is fixed, I will be back in full force!

Thanks everyone for your support so far, I hope you stick around to wait this out. 💙

This is how you know America isn't a meritocracy. Those unencumbered by social, political, and economic huddles are the only people that have life, liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness.

An echo chamber is neutral. It can be bad when it prevents you from understanding reality or outside perspectives that may help you. It can be neutral at times. And it can be good when it’s something that means you don’t have to listen to bigots and idiots for example.

I’m in an echo chamber of people who believe in evolution by way of natural and sexual selection as opposed to creationists. I know creationists exist, I’ve heard their arguments, and I’ve decided that I’d like to not continue hearing their arguments. I’ve made the same decision with flat earthers, moon landing deniers, antisemites, racists, homo/transphobes, and all sorts of other folks whose positions I’ve decided do me no good and lots of frustration.

Sometimes beliefs can be sincerely held and also bad.
