With the AMD 7840U:

  • 12h06 while WiFi web browsing @ 150 nits (notebookcheck)
  • 8h11 battery life in PCMark modern office (battery test) @ 200 nits (arstechnica)
  • 13h55 battery life in PCMark 10 (battery test) @ 120 nits (techradar)

The battery results are rather promising it seems!

Edit: there may have been some suboptimal expansion card configuration for the arstechnica review as per the framework CEO (I believe this is his reddit account? TLDR: expansion card placement matters for AMD: https://www.reddit.com/r/framework/comments/16ytxjd/saved_you_a_click_16x_better_battery_life_if_you/k3ar79v/

We don't really know if the photos are representative of their actual testbench unit. That said, I usually trust notebookcheck's reviews over others. Though this one gives me some concerns since they report a 6.5w average draw for idle, which should result in a 9.3-9.4 hour runtime with the 61w battery. Unless the battery is above spec for the test unit I guess. Otherwise, the math doesn't really match their idle draw estimate.

Fingers crossed that we get much better sleep performance, my 11th Gen dies in less than a day in sleep

@Rand @Nitrousoxide Just got my 13th gen with FW-supplied RAM (and a Corsair SSD).

Lost 2% in 6 hours using Fedora 38. I haven't tried Windows yet.

I had USB-C, 2 * USB-A and audio card inserted, then just shut the lid for a meeting and forgot all about it until I opened the lid in the evening.

So it can work well. I expect progress will continue, although hibernation would be nice as well.

Old comment, I know, but have you looked into the deep sleep option if on Linux? Also, there are massive power draws with some of the modules. I only keep one USB C module installed because of the power drain. It's maddening since it kinda was a selling point but my battery life is great on the OG 11

I have my AMD board now and it only supports S2Idle but I think overall it performs a lot better than my 11th gen did. I can get 2 days of sleep from a full charge about where my 11th gen would die from 100 overnight no matter what I tried. Also I use 4x USB-C so those are fine on power draw
