Day 1 of running my roomba, and I already had to clean the brushes because all the hair decided to accumluate at specifically the axis of the brushes. Is this just something inevitable with the design? I have a roomba j8+.

Yes, that's normal. It should get less, the more often you run your Roomba. But you should clean the axis from hair regulary, because too much hair wrapped around causes the axis to become very hot and the plastic core of the brush will melt due to increased friction

This is intentional. It keeps the rollers from getting clogged with hair and becoming less effective.
