My thoughts on the controversies:

  1. The Curtis Jones red card was justified and valid. Was unintentional, but was high and dangerous. No debate there to be had. Straight red.

  2. Jota's sending off was valid obviously.

  3. Diaz offside. Ok. I thought VAR was supposed to fix this stuff?

Fair play to Liverpool: incredible defending and resilience.

But this Spurs side are pure anti-Spursy. Mind-blowing. They never stop.

As a liverpool fan, I am bummed out by the curtis red but the first time I saw the reply I was like, "Ooh, lucky it wasn't a red". But then I remembered VAR was a thing.

@hallenbeck @spurs @coys given that diogo was on a yellow, a second yellow is a red. there's no VAR for that. but the first yellow was a no contact dive and appeal, your fella should have been given the card ¯\(ツ)/¯

@pacanukeha

I'll have to rewatch that, but I think there was contact. Klopp's reaction to Jota coming off spoke volumes: he was furious with him. Don't forget Udogie managed being on a soft yellow almost the whole of the NLD against Saka in the most high pressure situation. And he's only 20. Jota shoulda been able to manage himself better.

Ange's style of play puts relentless pressure on opponents, ramps up frustrations, draws fouls - it's something players need to cope with.

@hallenbeck @spurs @coys for sure Jota should have, you're 💯 right about that.

I'm gonna drop an amusing game clip but I won't force you to watch it by putting it here.

goading players into a response without being shitkickers like Dyche is fair play!

We had five seasons in a row of being top of the Fair Play table, then second, and sixth last horrible no good very bad season. One hopes that the Norns haven't decided we've been too nice and need to be taught a lesson

@hallenbeck @spurs @coys The they never stop narrative is over blown in this instance. Ultimately a lucky break with the own goal got the win against nine men.

Not sure if it was the Reds being so good, but I honestly expected a far more convincing performance from Spurs yesterday.

@ravipatel

Liverpool are indeed very good - title contenders - and Klopp had a plan (I need to look at the game more closely) - so there's alway an expectation (dread 😅) this Spurs team still in its infancy will struggle. Ange keeps saying bumps and wobbles will come.

I think the red card ruined the game. No way to judge where either team truly is. The number of fouls and cards were indicative of the unrelenting pressure we develop against teams, which leads to mistakes.
