Tonight's Ask PHLemmy: What turned out to be A LOT more expensive than you anticipated?

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

glad you stopped being thirsty today, the_yaya.
Vintage shirts. I'm talking band/concert tees from 1992 or whatever that's been worn once, only has one size (usually XL+), and looks beaten up due to age. Goes for like $800-$1000 maybe more. And they buy it to wear it as part of the streetwear aesthetic.
Edit: Here's an example. A Filipino runs that shop.
holy smokes. all those shirts i used to see at ukay shops were authentic too. just not my style i guess.
i havent seen much of them these days. maybe this is why.
Just scraping by for a living. Or doing anything travel wise, really.
Expenses today compared sa years ago
Lahat siguro ng DIY projects ko. Lol.
Though specifically siguro is baking your own bread. Fell down the sourdough rabit hole during the pandemic, and really, freshly baked bread tastes so much better than store bought ones pero napaka daming oras ang kelangan gugulin para magawa sya. And I believe that time is the most expensive currency.
holy shit i just assembled stuff in my blender for it to not run because i forgot it was already low on battery ππ
it could've been worse. but it's a really cute first to have a deconstructed smoothie. FUCK
Finally had a bidet installed at home. Free aircon na lang talaga magandang benefit ng pagpasok sa office, but even that is not worth drudging through Manila rush hour traffic.
Ingat ingat lang sa bidet, particularly the cheap ones. The seals tend to weaken overtime and leak bad. Binaha yung apartment namin when we left the place unattended for a week nung pandemic.
Another new fear unlock π« Though thanks din sa tip para sa mga nagpa-plan mag-install ng bidet.
Contractor yung pinsan ni SO, so nachika nya nga din to na dapat medyo pricier daw na brand yung kunin. Matagal na din nya ni-offer to install one for us, pero ayoko kasi ng amoy ng solvent I've been putting it off. The stars aligned this week na free sya and need namen mag overnight somewhere kaya the time is now. Ahahaha.
More BS sa kabila that needs debunking.
First of all, these AI reporters aren't field reporters. They are part of GMA's NCAA coverage.
Secondly, they're not even the main reporters. They still have courtside reporters for each team and have been hyping them like crazy (some of them are Kapuso talent being given exposure/seasoning). The AI will be used as supplementary "reporters" for their online channels. Instead of text/captions on shorts, it's them doing the narration. Wala naman binabayaran dun na person to begin with so they're not stepping over anyone.
Thirdly, I have a hard time believing that these bots will replace actual humans ever. A bot delivering the news will always look weird and inauthentic than Mel Tiangco, Aljo Bendijo, or Denice Dinsay. They will, however, replace jobs that companies don't give a shit about/massively undervalue - namely, customer service, tech support, and some writing tasks.
I hope GMA-7 is not dumb enough to replace their eye candy courtside reporters with AI. College hoops TV ratings will tank hard if it happens.
Ria Tanjuatco-Trillo's daughter joins in her mom's footsteps as a UAAP courtside reporter (Ria was one back in Silverstar although di ko pa naabutan yun lol).
