This is a SPOILER FREE review.

Horror done PERFECTLY.

"FROM" is creepy, desperate, and hopeful. Every second is crawling with this sense of imminent dread. Time is ticking, and ticking, and ~ticking~... And they can't escape. But they still hope that that might change.

The characters are brilliant. From father Khatri to Boyd to Jim to Jade, they all serve their purpose perfectly, and the more secondary characters also manage to flawlessly push the plot forward, as well as provide some much needed reprieve from the main storyline of the show. Because the main storyline is INTENSE!

The way the different personalities clash and slow things down, beautiful chaos. Even just the dynamic between the town and the colony house! The best part, really, is how much power is in the hands of the people, how much THEY control their life in the town. And how much one person can doom so many others.

Still, my favourite thing about the show is the very clear theme of family. That's what moves everything, they all lost family, and they all found family in that accursed town. I love that.

The audio and the visual are both great. Everything is set up magnificently to give the viewer that rising terror.

The only real criticism I have is the acting. It's not bad, but it's not that great either. I wasn't familiar with any of the actors before watching this show, but I'm not exactly looking forward to what they might do next. Still, it doesn't really take away that much from the show, since they do a good enough job of conveying everything that needs conveying; occasionally they knock it out of the park too.

This season left a lot of mystery to solve; more loose threads than I can count.

Watch on MGM+!

Loved the first season too! This really intense creepy vibe permeates every second of it. I am now halfway through the second season and still loving it but for now they seem to only be adding to all the mystery and not really solving anything. I hope it doesn't pull a lost on us and they have some idea where they are going. Hard to say if it's got sci-fi elements to it. It will depend on how the plot evolves.

Still, definitely would recommend it too. One of the best horror series in a looong time.

Hard to say if it’s got sci-fi elements to it.

I also wasn't sure, but Wikipedia says it's sci-fi so... I thought it would be OK to put it here! Don't know where Wikipedia got that from though.

And yeah, I watched episode 1 of season 2 and thought it was cooooool, but it felt like things were about to get messy... Or messier, rather.

I love science fiction, but when it comes to horror I avoid visual media. This one really pulled me in though. I hope the season ending is more satisfying this time around.

I’ve only just started (binge-) watching it, and I’m finding it very reminiscent of Lost, though I do think the horror elements are being very well done. I’m a few episodes into season 2, and so far so good!

Do you recommend Lost? I've never watched, though I've heard both good and bad things. And yes, I've also read somewhere that the two shows are rather similar.

Eh…I don’t know. It’s almost a cultural touchstone at this point, and perhaps worth watching if only for that reason. But I remember it being a very frustrating experience to watch originally - it was sort of disjointed, the writers strike in the ‘00s didn’t help, but if I remember correctly lots of plot threads were left dangling. It also got super weird towards the end!

Wow OP you really love this show :)

I watch it too but don't hold it in high regard. It seems to be dragging on for too long and I'm not convinced they actually have anything to say. I expect the ending to be like

hiding this with a spoiler just in case.they're in hell/purgatory or something like that.

Anyways you should cross-post your review to https://lemmy.ml/c/television

I DO!!!!

Regarding the ending, I suppose we'll see. That was addressed right at the start with Tabitha's question, and promptly dismissed, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ maychance...

Thanks for the advice on the cross-posting!
