I could easily see "AIs" being regulated like machine guns in the US. Basiclly you have to have a very hard to get manufacturer's license to own and produce them. All of them are serialized and new ones can't be manufactured after a certain date, maybe only a certain number of them are allowed on the market.

The definition of machine gun is also completely arbitrary and anyone can easily make one at home, but they don't, because the ban works. Otherwise history has shown that the ATF and FBI will kill you, your partner, your children and your dog. I could see similary strict enforcement with AI in the future.

I think AI is very similar in that way. You could also regulate AI hardware that way.

I'm still 50/50 on wether AI should be heavily regulated or not. I could see the enormous potential of AI teachers and AI in the medical field, but I could also see it causing a massive unemployment and birth rate crisis. Then again, maybe AI is the solution to these problems too. Who knows.
