I’m typing this on an iPhoneX I got on day of release. I’ve had a new battery and it’s still perfect. I kept telling myself I’d wait for USB-C, but now it’s here I’m just not bothered. I think the only reason I would have to upgrade is when mobile apps drop support for iOS 16. What “must have” feature are you using to justify an upgrade?

I probably wouldn’t upgrade. The X is still fine, and sounds like it’s still working for your usecase. Wait another generation and see if you feel like it offers something that you’ve gotta have vs your current phone.

The only reason I upgraded my 11 -> 14 Pro Max was the battery life and screen size.

It’s good to get out of the “must upgrade” mentality, especially when you’re asking others to give you a reason to.

This is the conclusion I’ve come to. I was asking to see if there was something I hadn’t considered. The only thing I think I’m really missing out on is 5G, there is a tower about 500m from my house, but when I’m at home I have broadband anyway. Other than that it’s a lot of money and waste to consolidate my laptop and phone charging cables.

You are conditionned to feel that you have to replace old gear with newer gear with marginally incremental features. This is a basic principle of modern capiralism and aggressive marketing. It is also a leading cause of resources overexploitation, soil and water pollution and the climate crisis.

You do not need to replace your phone until it stops working.

The chip on your phone is about the same performance as the latest iPad with the older design your good for at least another year

I forgot to add I tend to not like the pro models so I would wait a year for the latest chip to trickle down and hopefully bring usb3 to the none pro models.

I’m also hoping for a mini

I think Apple wants mini enjoyers to just keep a phone in their bag and by an Apple Watch too!

I’m curious why you prefer the non-pro models?
