I pressed the spoiler button in Sync which gave me arrows and exclamation marks like >!this!< but supposedly that's not the correct Lemmy way? Take a look at https://lemmy.world/post/498805?scrollToComments=true

Is that correct or ?

In Sync that spoiler is hidden properly, but when I tap it, I get a toast saying "error removing spoiler"

Sync markup buttons are still heavily based on reddit's. This is still beta but ^this doesn't work either. Almost would be better to remove the buttons.

It's been a problem since the start - Sync still doesn't handle spoiler tags properly. It's a known issue that seems to get posted about semi regularly. Even in the Sync for Lemmy community About page has a spoiler that doesn't work right in Sync.
