Ergonomic, split and other weird keyboards

Rules

Keep it ergo

Posts must be of/about keyboards that have a clear delineation between the left and right halves of the keyboard, column stagger, or both. This includes one-handed (one half doesn't exist, what clearer delineation is that!?)

i.e. no regular non-split¹ row-stagger and no non-split¹ ortholinear²

¹ split meaning a separation of the halves, whether fixed in place or entirely separate, both are fine.
² ortholinear meaning keys layed out in a grid

I was sitting here trying to think which version of the N52 had the mode lights on the side there and I realize it's the Tartarus you have and not an N52.

I did have an N52 and the Logitech offering in the past!

I have two N52te's that I've had for years and I'm just sitting here biding my time until they die since Razer seemingly doesn't want to make the Tartarus cheaper.

I hear that. My next gaming pad will likely be one of these - have you checked them out?

They previously sold these on their own store, with tons of customizable options.

Nice build, like the caps

Since this picture was taken, I’ve changed out the switches and key caps a couple of times, but at the time I was using kailh choc red pro switches, and the key caps were NuPhy (mainly because I really wanted legends, and that wasn’t common at the time).

Is it possible to be too ergonomic? Does this sacrifice flexibility?

[–] RustedSwitch 4 points 2 years ago

I can’t think of anything that I’m sacrificing that I wouldn’t consider worth it. Did you have something in mind?

Unless I’m losing something extreme, to me, ergonomics is king. My job is basically 90% emails and meeting notes, and I have one set of joints/tendons to last me the rest of my days, so its important to me that I take care of them.

Looks really nice! What are those arm (?) rests?

[–] RustedSwitch 2 points 2 years ago

Allsop wrist rests - they work alright, but are a little fiddly.

Nuphy makes Choc keycaps? Or is it MX?

[–] RustedSwitch 2 points 2 years ago

Yes, they sell choc keycaps. They are delicate in my opinion: I broke several of them. I wouldn’t say that I was super careful, but I haven’t broken any MBKs.

Are the number keys also the qwerty row?

[–] RustedSwitch 1 points 2 years ago

Yep! The left middle thumb key shifts to a layer where the top row is numbers. The right middle thumb key shifts to a layer for special characters.
