The most active unofficial successor to r/OpenTTD!

See also lemmy.zip and feddit.de for other communities. The other Canadian branch on lemmy.ca is sadly no longer active.

Please do not ask where to get NewGRFs, they are easily obtainable via the in-game content downloader (a.k.a "BaNaNaS" or "the fruit store") or TT-Forums and certain authors have expressed they will not allow downloads of graphics that they no longer provide support for by penalty of copyright law. The other side of the coin is otherwise explained in our "rules" thread. Please read the rules thread before posting or do not post.

I'm playing TTD and Open TTD for about 20years

Initialy playing as intended, trying to maximize objectives points and having money, but I finally found my fun by trying to send people where they want to go.

With gamerule Symetric people, and asymetric mails (and yolo others resources); typically with FIRS and few others mods

Bus stop with too many people ? Me not happy. Need more buses, more trams, more trains, more boats, more planes.

Problem with that, is that at a certain point in the game, there are absolutely TOO MANY people waiting everywhere... Village with 50 inhabitants? 3k people waiting in the bus stop.

Still waiting for a mod to fix how many people are generated in stations (not a mod that simply reduce how much we earn by passenger as most mods impacting passenger transportation do)

I'll still use some industries, but typically with the only objective to grow cities and villages (mainly goods production so)

I aim to create a big network, where one person from the top of the map can go to the bottom of the map (even if he need to take 20 different commutes for that..); that's what I like

And you ?

I started off playing OpenTTD just a few months back, when a friend of mine suggested it as a chill multiplayer game to play while in voice call.

Never really was big into tycoon games, but OpenTTD just has a certain retro charm to it that I enjoy. I haven't played it in a hot minute, but seeing this community pop up reminded me that I should probably revisit it :)

I played a little OpenTTD and tried to follow the objectives. I often missed the deadlines, I consider myself a beginner.

I'm a "Logistics Tycoon" OpenTTD player with a "make everything pretty and historically-accurate" NewGRF-using playstyle. I played with JGR with the calendar increase settings and now use wallclock mode, and I try to have as much variation of railtypes and road/tram types as well.

Unfortunately I am having trouble setting up nmlc and the python-patcher used for making NewGRF mods, and am taking an extended break from OpenTTD to sort out life issues before I ask Owen Rudge to unban me from the forums.

No drama intended, despite my reputation, I just mention it in case someone is willing to assist me without relying on the forums or discord (also, I don't trust discord because they gave my data to the CCP which is outright international espionage by a nation that strongly dislikes my own) to communicate.

Among the ideas I have to test are a "tracktype standards module" where you copy .pnml files of the track types you need into a pypatcher-based NewGRF mod's source code, a futuristic "water vapor locomotive" that expels only harmless steam from being fueled by hydrogen to upgrade the Iron Horse 3 add-on, and...

ReFuSet RaTT, the Retro-Futuristic and Contemporary Futurism set, which uses GPL v2 graphics but recombines them to work together and designates pipelines as roads and electrical/telecom utility lines as tramways to force realistic bridge use by the former and allow the latter to overlap roads and pipelines without needing bridges. It would also use the tunnel "catenary" from the maker of the Dutch NRT Metro trains as a decorative tramtype to make road tunnels. I do plan to credit them, I just don't remember their name offhand. Also, this time not all graphics would be recycled GPL v2/v3/CC-BY-SA-NC, as I drew a couple smartroads and an optical tramtype but will still be seeking an artist because the results may be seizure-inducingly full of flashing pixel animations.

This probably reflects my playstyle, which is to facilitate roleplaying a realistic logistics megacorp by manipulating the game's settings and adding mods. One of these days I want to make an official "eyecandy and rp server" for /c/OpenTTD.
