My folks have a place in Weston VT right on the ridge with a great view.

How beautiful. If a person was interested in owning 5 or so acres there, but still wanted to be 20-30 away from civilization, where would you suggest?

You're probably describing the Northeast Kingdom. (The NEK).

There are varying degrees of civilization though. I live in the state capital, Montpelier, and our population is around 7k!

Hey! That's near Emerald Lake - great hidden paddling spot - (to the West) and The Vermont Country Store (to the East). Great area!

Vermont is so beautiful! I'd love to move there but I just don't think I could handle the winter :(
