@rbos 70% is my threshold for clothing too. For tools, it's more about when I have time to kill and I'm at a base with a whetstone or firearm cleaning kit. My knife, axe and any firearms are usually >90%

(swiped from reddit's /r/thelongdark for now)
The Long Dark is a first-person survival video game developed and published by Hinterland Studio. The player assumes the role of a plane crash survivor who must survive the frigid Canadian wilderness after a global disaster disables all electronics. Welcome to our community!

Agreed, since the whetstone/firearm condition restoration is like 5-8%, you don't waste any of it. Clothing can repair up to 70% (like for socks) for one piece of cloth, so it always feels a bit wasteful to repair at high levels. But you need to stay warm!
@rbos I'm always very reluctant to repair clothes that aren't my 'final' clothes, like sports socks. I know I'm going to get two pairs of wool eventually, so I let my sports socks get right down to rags unless I'm desperate for the extra temp.
I tend to repair around 70% as well. It feels like a waste to me of if I repair for less than the max amount, and most clothing repairs 30% max. Gear that I hope to replace later (like cotton socks/gloves) I'll often let go lower especially if I'm low on cloth supplies. Earmuffs are the only thing I'll repair above 80%ish just because they're so fragile. I can never seem to keep them for long.
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but TLD is probably my favorite game ever and I'm super excited to have found this community.
Good to have you! And hey, I figure a necro thread is better than a fresh one - why rehash stuff that's already been talked about?
