This is more recent behavior. It is the toxic Reddit people coming here to be toxic.

When I came here from reddit (a while back), I was treated to downvotes for innocuous stuff. Eventually I challenged a tankie or two, so those I'll own.

I think this is people being people. And reflexive reasoning turning into downvotes.

I did research. May or may not be relevant.

Yeah people will downvote random shit for no reason.

They often downvote because they don't agree/can't be fucked/don't relate rather than upvoting the content/effort or just moving on. It's kinda dumb, but people are like that.
