Subverting the will of the people. That's all Republicans have left

They have to prove misconduct. Prior statement as to how she'll lean doesn't qualify. Evers should just reappoint her.

Pretty sure if they have the majority and the 2/3 vote they don’t have to prove anything. They can make shit up

The trouble with most of the mechanisms of the US government is that they're built around the assumption that the majority of politicians are acting in good faith. When one major party decides that winning is more important than integrity, the whole thing breaks down.

That being said, I really don't know what can be done about it that wouldn't also be fascist or at least undemocratic

"Supreme Court justice as she's about to hear her first case.

Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R, told the Associated Press this week that Republicans are looking into the precedence of impeaching Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Janet Protasiewicz before the court hears a challenge to the state's district maps.

"I want to do legal research and see if this is unprecedented," Vos told AP. "I'm not saying it’s definitely happening. But we have to take a look at it."

Republicans currently carry a majority in the state Assembly and Senate, but challengers to the state electoral map argue it's gerrymandered in Republicans' favor.

To impeach Protasiewicz, there would need to be a majority vote in the Assembly followed by a two thirds Senate majority to convict.

Republicans have accused the judge, who was elected in April and flipped the court to a liberal majority, of already expressing her opposition to the districting maps during her campaign.

"Let’s be clear here," she said in January. "The maps are rigged here, bottom line.""

If convicted and removed the governor can appoint a new justice.

But...

The fun part is they don't have to convict, under WI law if a justice is impeached they are barred from trying cases until the Senate tries them.

If they move forward my money is on impeachment and delay, since that kills the majority (that the people of WI voted for, on the basis that she opposed the horrific district maps) and everyone's job is safe for another election cycle.

The 2nd amendment they are so fond of has words that apply here. Just saying.
